General Update - How I feel

Well I haven’t really done much in terms of business deals lately, I have been laying low on a vacation to the desert of the US (AZ, NV, etc) and I really learned a lot about myself during this trip. I learned a lot spiritually and mentally. I had minutes upon minutes with no sleep trying to find a flight home today (3.30.08.) I am enjoying a couple books on finance and taxes since I am trying to figure out where I am going to put my investments next (stocks? bonds? ETFs? Mutual Funds???). I think the most difficult thing about my life is the stress that web hosting and web design causes. It requires me to constantly check up on servers, debug, upgrade, maintain, and update my websites on a daily basis (usually 24/7/365) and a lot of time I get no love from my clients if the service went down or something went wrong. I have the ability to guide them through but it’s been such a drain on capital that I really am trying to rebuild what I lost/ fix issues with my clients in the kindest and most professional way possible. Unfortunately for some reason that has proven to be much more difficult than I anticipated or even imagined. I feel terrible and I need sleep and probably another meal but I all I can think about is getting home and passing out. I have an interview with Apple, who I plan on developing a very good career relationship with, depending on what they require me to do and if the pay is good enough to pay the rent in California (pretty expensive among all the prices that CA gouges it’s citizens/residents on).

In general I have been thinking about my attitude and writing style on the internet and how it affects views and other people’s opinion of me. I try not to be cocky or ‘uppity’ about my business or my relationships with other people. I really want to apologize to anyone that misinterpreted my words or responses in the last 3-6 months. I was really going through some hard times that I don’t expect a lot of people to understand or empathize with; life is never a box of chocolates for me. There have been times where I have stayed up all night cutting up instrumentals or doing something creative, only for it never to really be heard by anyone. I think there are times where people think I am in business only for profit and not for providing a good service. That couldn’t be further from the truth. But it got to the point where the hosting was going to be another $1-2k or something to invest and I have been trying my best to fund this venture myself.

Life for me is a series of ups and downs. I know that in, say, 2 years things will be good and I will probably be a salaried worker somewhere; it’s hard to say what people want to hear or know about me. I think that’s my biggest problem, being an illusion.

Okay so update it’s now 6:00PM in Arizona and it would have been nice to visit places in AZ but I really didn’t want to spend any more money on transportation. Las Vegas, Reno, and other casino/resorts are not worth your time unless you have the money to throw down. If you cannot play it up its almost not worth even going out to Vegas. It’s damn hot this time of year so if you are going to a desert state in the U.S. bring plenty of sunscreen and a bathing suit. If you get lucky you might steam it up with some of these sizzling desert girls.

I have such a long day I don’t think I have ever had a day this bad. But at least I got to see some parts of Phoenix, and it’s not actually that bad. It’s just as the pictures show it on the ASU webpage. Hopefully I can just go to school at U of Phoenix at some point. It’s hot and the girls are all SCORCHING (you know: hair done, nice short dresses, dirty blondes.)

I really cannot say enough about how much AZ is probably just like New Mexico or Texas. This spring break has been a complete pain in the ass. I honestly don’t think I will ever fly US Airways again.

Marketing

So I’m sure there are many of you regular readers, or even those who stumble upon this website, that are wondering, “how do I market my website? I just started and I don’t have a lot of money to put towards xxxxx.com (or whatever the TLD/domain name is).” Well the answer to that is simple. Start small by submitting your site to as many TARGETED directories as possible.

What works
- GOOD Affiliate Programs
- Face to face business
- GOOD legitimate business partnerts
- Directory submissions
- Targeted marketing campaigns
- Tools like Google Analytics

What doesn’t work
- Spending too much money on one site
- Thinking that putting all your eggs in one basket will lead to success
- Thinking that it won’t be hard work
- Not monitoring traffic
- Thinking that the internet is a place for beginners

Sorry, just going to be honest. Business is ruthless. Life is not. If your business is not ruthless you might make money but if you have NO idea how to work the internet or IT then you have less of a chance to succeed.

Travis

My philosophy on life and what people choose to do; anti-gambling

I was talking with my ex-girlfriend and it’s interesting for me to note that while things change, people do not. I honestly used to fight for anti-gambling, drinking, sex, bla bla bla, but I realize that in the real world people do what they want when they want to get to the top. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to have sex, gamble, drink, etc. But alchohol causes far more issues than other drugs, not to mention that there is always an economic reason that those products exist. I guess what really gets to me is the fact that no matter what I do, no matter where I go, I cannot seem to pull women who aren’t out there for the money. The world is really a devil in disguise. I try hard to build communities online, I do most of my stuff online. A lot of times I don’t even leave the house or travel. What it comes down to is that without the funding to be creative it is difficult to make it on your own. I am trying to make connections every time I go somewhere but it gets to the point where talking up people only goes so far. That is why I am majoring in business communications. Obviously my parents want me to be a stand up guy that does all the right things, ecetera, but I realize that fun is only how you percieve it. Do you want to make money online? Yeah you can do that. Doesn’t mean that it’s for everyone. Get good at reading the contracts you sign, understanding the legal things you get into; and, as my best friend put it just after I moved back home “you can make all the decisions you want, but you are ultimately the person who is going to deal with the consequences.” After getting in a small amount of legal issues I can safely say that I want to be someone that is rich. That is my main goal in life. I want to use that money to help people with philanthropies. I know I can do this, I just don’t really want to waste time dealing with people that are out to get me for my money. I want to make good music and get paid for it. It’s hard to make money without money.

So my philosophy on life? Things happen. Things happen for a reason. If you see a hottie (girl, I’m not gay, sorry guys) staring at you, go get that. Go talk to her. She might have something to say that might change your life. If you see some lady from another country, talk to them, they might change your perspective on things. In the mean time, I am going to see if I can’t make some money on some blackjack; maybe there are sommore Southern Bells ready to have some fun tonight.

Who knows, but if you are a programmer or you work for a common GOOD goal, I salute you.

Until the next entry,
Travis

Going to Vegas!

I’m going to Vegas. Got a good deal on a hotel and plane fare, money is in the bank and it’s time to go! I might post some pictures here or use some of the photos and videos for a new website. It depends on a lot of different variables. I know that I can make some serious money off of the content I am about to create. My next projects will be very nice ad supported sites that I will need to put at least $20/mo into to really get the traffic I want. I am about to buy a few sites, too. I’ll keep you all updated. By Monday I will be doing another finance report on the U.S. economy and stocks to invest in; in the meantime I’m hoping to meet some tricks who can provide some treats in Nevada, yadig?

Late,
Travis

Correlation between hits and readers?

I just did a fairly successful marketing campaign but I am starting to think that I need more SEO knowledge to really make a profit on the internet. I will likely buy a bunch of arcade sites later this year. Starting April I really have no choice but to try and balence even more work and activites over what I already do. Hopefully by the second week in April I will have all my accounts receivable collected and things will shape up. To all my friends or those who I have hurt or lost trust with in the last year; I’m sorry, but sometimes that is how life is, I guess all we can do in this life is learn from our mistakes.

I will be adding a photos section soon, just to make sure I keep a good hobby to keep me away from any bad hobbies. Look forward to that. Other than that if you are reading this, THANK YOU.

Sex is one of the biggest terms on any search engine

Sex is just plain one of the biggest terms on ANY search engine. Please prove me wrong. Is there another term that would beat sex as a search term? I doubt it, that would be highly improbable and you would be kidding yourself if you made a bet against the previous statement. That said, it is interesting to note that if you search for sex you no longer have to deal with paying for pornography or dealing with ‘enter’ splash pages to get to the videos, photos, and archives of endless hardcore pornography.

For example, lets take all the stuff on the first page of the google search term for sex.

Financial Report March 26th, 2008

I am going to report on the market close today for 8pm of March 26th, 2008. It is about 8pm PST here, and 11PM EST currently. As usual in a bear market the following industries did well today: basic materials, energy, and utilities. Tech wise AMD still is fighting an uphill battle against Intel.

However, this is the best headline I could find that is most current for today, for multiple reasons (1) the Fed is going about fixing the U.S. economy completely wrong, 2) Financial Insitutions are finally being held accountable for their actions, 3) financial institutions are likely to merge, causing more and more move towards a monopolistic economy, and 4) The entire U.S. banking system is about to change drastically, among the hints that this recession might be just as bad as the Great Depression.)

Now lets get into analyzing the article: Congress demands answers from Fed, Bear Stearns
03.26.08, 7:16 PM ET

JP Morgan Chase bought out Bear sterns. Congress and the U.S. gov’t have shown clear signs of assisting in this aquisition. “The Fed guaranteed some $29 billion of illiquid Bear Stearn” is a big deal because this means the government is not only funding an extremely costly war in Iraq but is also giving out HUGE loans to financial institutions this year.

Another interesting thing in the market today was the 38% gain from Rambus, Inc. Rambus won a crucial lawsuit against Hynix, a direct competitor. This is one of the many steps for Rambus to win royalties from its competitors. For those not familiar with Rambus, it supplies memory for Playstations (Sony.)

Also it would be interesting to note that Motorola is to split into two seperate companies in 2009.

That is all for now, be prepared for a huge series of posts on finance next month.

Best,
Travis

Link Directories Part 2

Okay so many of you probably own a website, and whether you pay for it or not, you want to know how to gain exposure and keep that exposure happening over a long period of time. Well, that is not easy when it comes to websites. First of all, the key word to remember is AFFILIATE, AFFILIATE, AFFILIATE. Affiliates and good link backs are crucial to a good Alexa rating, a good Google page rank, and good meta/alt tags. If you have that set up you are on your way to making money on the internet. If you DON’T then you probably won’t succeed with your business plans for the internet.

Market Update 3.24.08

Sorry if the blog slowed down… I am trying to provide quality content ever since the new advertising campaign. I also have some tests coming up so I had to slow down on the blog and website updates.
